Minus The Illusion – starting with the abstract
Inspire • 33m
“When communication goes out to customers, I feel like our words fall into the deep hole of White
Corporate America trying to “sound inclusive and it bothers me enough that I don’t believe in our
product as much as I used to.” Said by an employee within an HR Tech company. This person
goes on to say “herein lies my real issue — when I try to make suggestions to improve our
approach, as a BIPOC, I’m ignored.”
Minus The Illusion is a mashup of all things corporate from EEOC statements and press releases to
employee engagement and vanity metrics that some refer to as people analytics. Truth is far too
many have fallen short – worst are ignored as mentioned above. This conversation is about high
expectations and trust - neither of which are nebulous. Minus The Illusion is the one talk that will
change your relationship with power.
Aware of the ways in which organizations and people defend themselves against change that
threatens their social structures, philosopher and social theorist Donald Schön noted that some will
“fight like mad to stay the same.” We have a responsibility to take part and when necessary, force
positive change. After all we’ve seen in the last few years, Minus The Illusion will have you fall in
love with Maisie and others you’ve never encountered.
